Super Sunday: Preview
On Sunday, December 3, it’s Super Sunday again! Several strong opponents will once again face each other in various European competitions. The most interesting matches of Sunday December 3 can be found here.
Jupiler Pro League
In our own Belgian competition, KAA Gent plays just after noon on the field of KRC Genk. The home team desperately needs some points if they do not want to fall out of the top 6. Genk is just above Club Brugge, which only needs to win once to have more points.
A little later, STVV plays in the AFAS Stadium in Mechelen. These two teams are on equal footing in the Jupiler Pro League, in 9th and 10th place respectively with 19 and 18 points. The winner will therefore immediately take a big step towards the top 6.
Standard will visit Club Brugge on that day. As mentioned earlier, Club can enter the top 6, but then it has to win against Carl Hoefkens’ team. If Standard wins, it will have the same number of points as Club.
The number 1 in the standings, Union, hosts Cercle Brugge. They are in 4th place in the Jupiler Pro League and are on par with Ghent with 3 extra points.
Ligue 1
Leader PSG needs to gain some extra points to keep their place, as Nice is barely 1 point behind them. But PSG, which has already achieved 30 points after 13 games, can hope for a good result against Le Havre. It is now in 8th place in Ligue 1.
The third team in rank, Monaco, plays against one of the lowest ranked teams: Montpellier. Monaco could move up one place in one of the next matches, but they will still need at least 6 points.
LOSC is only one point below Monaco, and will therefore want to overtake them. They can try to do that against Metz. That shouldn’t cause many problems either, because Metz is only in 9th place with 16 points.
Bundesliga
In Germany’s Bundesliga, we get a top game between Leverkusen and Dortmund. Leverkusen is currently first, but know that Bayern Munich is not far away. The current national champion only has 2 points less. Dortmund is in 4th place, but will move up one place if it can beat the leader.
Frankfurt is also trying to get into the top 6, and needs one win to do so. Their opponent is Augsburg, which is three places lower with 14 points.
Serie A
AS Roma would like to finish a little higher during Serie A, because with 21 points it is just in 5th place. The club from the capital plays against Sassuolo, which is only in 14th place. With the three points they would be level with Napoli.
Napoli plays against leader Inter Milan, a top match that makes this day twice as interesting. Inter is on a good run, with 32 points after 13 games, but drew in its last match, against Juventus. Napoli is on a bumpy road, but won against Atalanta last week.
Premier League
would immediately jump over Arsenal and move into first place. It could also take a bigger lead over Aston Villa and Tottenham. Fulham is now in 14th place, which is achievable for Liverpool.
Aston Villa are also comfortably in the top 5, but a win, and an extra 3 points, would take them a big step forward. Otherwise, it looks like they will soon be overtaken by Tottenham and/or Manchester United. That Manchester plays against Newcastle on Saturday.
We also get a top finish in the Premier League between numbers 2 and 5 in the league. On that day, Manchester City will host Spurs from Tottenham. Tottenham have lost their last three games, so they now hope to break that streak. And Manchester City has not had it easy lately either: they drew in their last two games.
La Liga
Real Betis can be in the top 5 after this Sunday in La Liga, just below Barcelona. They play against the club at the bottom of the table: Almería. For Real Betis it looks like they will be able to rise a number of places after this match. Then the question remains what the teams between them and Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad, can still do.
And one last top poster: FC Barcelona hosts Atlético Madrid in the Luís Companys Olympic Stadium. The club of Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie de Jong, among others, is now in 4th place, with the same number of points as Atlético, which is in 3rd place. The winner of this competition will therefore be in 3rd place. To overtake Girona, the teams need at least 4 points. That club now has 35 points, as many as leader Real Madrid.
