Another week of international club football starts on Tuesday, November 28. The best teams in Europe compete to get as far as possible in the most famous competitions. And what can our Belgian teams still do against the European football giants?
Champions League
Bayern Munich is playing a perfect course, with 12 points after 4 games. It will be exciting between the other three teams, of which Copenhagen and Galatasaray both have 4 points. Real Madrid has not lost a single time in group C. It is therefore difficult for Napoli to overtake them, but with 5 points less and two games to go, it is possible. For Braga and Union Berlin it will probably be a battle for third place and a place in the play-offs. But first we get the top match between Real Madrid and Napoli.
Real Sociedad and Inter Milan are at the top with the same number of points. With two more matches to come, every match will be important. Real Sociedad first plays against RB Salzburg, Inter against Benfica.
It also remains exciting in group E: Atlético Madrid, Lazio and Feyenoord still have a chance to claim the leading spot. For Celtic, who are at the bottom with 1 point, that is almost impossible. Atlético Madrid first meets Lazio Roma, while Feyenoord plays Celtic.
And in group F it becomes even more exciting: everyone still has a chance to win. BVB Dortmund is at the top with 7 points, but PSG follows with only one point less. They meet each other on the last day of the match. First Dortmund plays against Milan, and PSG against Newcastle. Can Newcastle pull off another stunt against the club from the French capital, or will it not work this time?
Manchester City seems to be in possession of the leading spot, but Leipzig is still 3 points behind. Manchester City can ensure that they get even further ahead, because they meet each other this week. Red Star and Young Boys will also play against each other this week. They are playing for 3rd place and a spot in the play-offs.
It is almost impossible for Antwerp to advance. They have not yet been able to win any points in the last four Champions League matches. The obvious winner, Barcelona, must still ensure that they are not overtaken by Porto. They currently have the same number of points. And Shakhtar has not yet disappeared from the battlefield: the Ukrainian team has 6 points, and with two more games it could end up at the top.
Europa League
In Group A, West Ham and Freiburg are tied, so one match can make the decision. They both have 9 points, and only the winner of this group advances directly. West Ham plays against TSC, a club from Serbia. Freiburg then plays against Olympiakos.
Marseille and Brighton are also still fighting for victory in group B. Marseille is now 1st with 8 points, but Brighton only needs 1 win to move up. Brighton plays against AEK, which also has a chance to win the group. They have 4 points. Marseille plays against Ajax, which with 2 points could only reach the play-offs.
It also remains exciting in the group with Liverpool and Union. Liverpool are now the leader with 9 points, but Toulouse are not far behind them. With 7 points and two games to go, it is quite possible that they will advance directly. That will be a little more difficult for Union, they have 4 points. So they should be able to win the next two games. This week they play against Toulouse, on the last matchday they play against Liverpool.
It will also be exciting in group G, because Slavia Prague has the same number of points as AS Roma. With two matches left in this group round, one match can make a big difference. On Thursday, AS Roma will play against Servette, where they won 4-0 last time. Slavia Praag will then play against Sheriff, where they even won 6-0 last time. So it looks like the decision will only be made during the next match day.
In group H, Leverkusen is certain of their leading position, but it remains exciting in the battle for the ticket for the play-offs. Qarabag and Molde both have 6 points, so every match is important. For Häcken, this option is also out of reach.
Europa Conference League
Ghent is doing well, but it will still be exciting between them and Macabbi Tel-Aviv. They have 9 points, Ghent has 10. Ghent is playing a good series, and won the last three games. It will play against Zorya Luhansk on Thursday, which is in 3rd place with 4 points.
Club Brugge will also have an exciting time, because Bodo/Glimt is only 3 points away. But the people of Bruges have also won their last three matches, so perhaps they can benefit from that. On Thursday they play against Besiktas, which is at the bottom with barely 1 point.
KRC Genk can still win, but then they have to score points in their next two games. Fiorentina are at the top of their group with 8 points, Ferencváros are second with 6 points. Genk also has 6 points. It plays against Fiorentina on Thursday.
