Match Overview: Week 14

There are numerous exciting matches lined up this week. The top European clubs are competing for vital points this weekend. Additionally, there is an unmissable international duel on Friday. Keep reading to find out which matches you should definitely watch out for.

Friday, April 5th

The Belgian women’s football team is set to go head-to-head with world champions Spain in the European Championship qualifiers on April 5th. The Red Flames are in Group A2, facing tough competition from Spain, Denmark, and the Czech Republic. This is their chance to secure a spot in their third consecutive European Championship. The tournament is scheduled for July 2025 in Switzerland. The match against Spain will be held at Den Dreef in Leuven, where the reigning world champions will be a formidable opponent. Tessa Wullaert and her teammates are ready to show their skills and determination once again.

Saturday, April 6th

On Saturday, the Stadio Olimpico will host a thrilling Roman city derby between AS Roma and Lazio Roma. Currently, AS Roma holds the 5th position with a 5-point lead over Lazio, who sits in 7th place. However, in Serie A, we’re only on matchday 30 out of 38, which means there’s still a lot at stake. AS Roma’s Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku have the opportunity to increase their goal count, while Lazio heavily relies on the Italian striker Ciro Immobile for their goals. Let’s hope for a more sportsmanlike match this time, without any racist remarks targeting Lukaku.

Brighton is set to welcome Arsenal this week. Currently positioned 9th in the league, they are trailing Tottenham in 5th place by 14 points. It will be a challenging match for Brighton as they go up against Arsenal, who are in 2nd place, just 2 points behind Liverpool. The ‘Gunners’ will be determined to secure 3 more points to potentially claim the top spot. Additionally, Arsenal is on a winning streak, with only one draw in their last 5 matches against their direct rival Manchester City.

Antwerp is gearing up to face Genk in the second matchday of the Champion’s Play-offs. A victory for the Great Old could propel them into the top 3, displacing Genk. Their last match against Anderlecht was tough, and securing a win won’t be any easier this time. Antwerp currently sits second to last with 26 points, just one point behind Genk who holds the 3rd spot. Racing Genk emerged victorious against Union in their last match.

Sunday, April 7th

Feyenoord and Ajax are gearing up for a crucial showdown in the Netherlands, as they battle it out for the top spots in the rankings. With only 7 matchdays left, there’s plenty at stake and both teams will be looking to secure valuable points. Currently, Feyenoord holds the 2nd position, but they are trailing behind PSV by 7 points. They can’t afford to be complacent as their spot in the top 4 is not yet guaranteed, and catching up will be a tough challenge. On the other hand, Ajax is determined to break into the top 4, currently sitting just outside with 44 points.

Manchester United will welcome English leaders Liverpool at Old Trafford. United is in need of points to climb into the top 5 and potentially secure a European spot, as well as to stay in the title race. However, it will be a tough challenge with Liverpool holding a 19-point lead. United would have to win all their matches and rely on Liverpool dropping points, which seems almost impossible. Despite their strong position, Liverpool faces competition from Arsenal and Manchester City.

Anderlecht’s victory over Antwerp has put them on par with Union at the top of the table. However, Union’s loss to Genk means that the upcoming match will decide whether Anderlecht takes the lead or remains tied. Anderlecht will be up against Club Brugge, who drew in their last game against Cercle Brugge in a local derby. Club Brugge will face a tough challenge if they fail to secure a win. Sitting in 4th place with 27 points, they are currently 8 points behind Anderlecht.
