In the run-up to the European Championship in Germany, the qualified teams will play friendly matches. Several countries will face each other this week. Read here which teams you can watch this week.

EURO 2024

On Friday, June 14, host country Germany will kick off the 2024 European Championship against Scotland. For a month, we will be looking for the best European football country, with the final on July 14 as the climax. Belgium will play its first match on Monday, June 17, against Slovakia.

The titleholder is Italy. In the final, it remained 1-1 after extra time, and the Italians defeated England 3-2 on penalties. Italy is back in the European Championship but with an almost entirely new team. It will be very challenging for the new generation to match the performance of four years ago.

Tuesday, June 4: Italy – Turkey

Italy is in Group B, where they will face Spain, Croatia, and Albania. This week they play friendly against Turkey, which is in Group F with Georgia, Portugal, and the Czech Republic. Italy will also play against Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Turkey against Poland.

The last time these teams played was in March. Italy won against Venezuela and Ecuador, and Turkey lost to Hungary and Austria. The Italians likely have a slight mental advantage, but in their last head-to-head match, they narrowly beat the Turks. In March 2022, it was 2-3.

Wednesday, June 5: Belgium – Montenegro

Belgium will face Ukraine, Slovakia, and Romania in the group stage. This week, the Red Devils play against Montenegro, which did not qualify for this European Championship. Belgium will also play against Luxembourg this week.

Belgium’s last match was against England on March 26. It ended 2-2 at Wembley. Montenegro last played against North Macedonia on March 25. They won 1-0 at home. The last head-to-head match dates back to 2012 when it ended 2-2 in Brussels.

Thursday, June 6: Netherlands – Canada

The Netherlands is in the same group as France, Poland, and Austria. They have tough opponents, so they better prepare well against Canada. The Netherlands will also play against Iceland on June 10.

The last match for the Netherlands was against Germany on March 26. The Dutch were just not good enough and lost 2-1. Canada won their last match 2-0 against Trinidad and Tobago in the Concacaf Nations League. The two teams have only played each other once before. In the run-up to the 1994 World Cup, the teams met in Toronto, and the Netherlands won 0-3.

Friday, June 7: Germany – Greece

Host country Germany will kick off the European Championship against Scotland, and then play against Hungary and Switzerland. They prepare with a friendly match against Greece, which did not qualify.

Germany won against the Netherlands on March 26 and did not play again afterward. Greece lost to Georgia on March 26 in the European Championship qualifiers after penalties. Germany has never lost to Greece, with 6 wins and 3 draws, and their last meeting was in the quarterfinals of Euro 2012.

Saturday, June 8: Portugal – Croatia

Portugal is in Group F along with the Czech Republic, Georgia, and Turkey. Coach Roberto Martinez’s team faces Luka Modric, who, along with his team, has to play against Spain, Italy, and Albania in Group B. Portugal will also play a friendly match against Finland, and Croatia will play against North Macedonia.

Portugal played against Slovenia on March 26 and lost 2-0. Croatia, on the other hand, won against Egypt on the same day. Portugal and Croatia last faced each other in the Nations League in 2020. The Portuguese won 2-3.

Saturday, June 8: Belgium – Luxembourg

As mentioned earlier, Belgium is in the group with Ukraine, Romania, and Slovakia. After Montenegro, they will also face Luxembourg this week. Luxembourg did not qualify for the European Championship.

Belgium played a draw against England in March, while Luxembourg played against Kazakhstan on the same day and won 2-1. The last head-to-head match between these two teams dates back ten years, when Belgium won 5-1 in preparation for the World Cup in Brazil.
