The women will go for gold in the sprint in track cycling one last time, indoor volleyball and basketball finals will be played, and there are finals in various wrestling categories.

Medal Standings and Expectations

At this moment, the United States, as previously mentioned, has the most Olympic medals, but China has the most gold medals. The US needs just one more gold medal to equal the Chinese athletes. In contrast, China needs 25 more medals to match their American counterparts.

Before the Olympics, it was expected that Belgium would win 12 medals. In the first weekend, Remco Evenepoel met that expectation by winning his first gold. Wout Van Aert’s bronze was a bonus, as was judoka Gabriella Willems’ bronze. The medals for Evenepoel and Kopecky were also predicted, although they initially expected bronze for Van Aert and gold for Kopecky. Matthias Casse just missed a medal, as did Nina Derwael and the eventing team in equestrian.

In the final week, 5 more medals are expected: Nafi Thiam in the heptathlon, Sarah Chaari in taekwondo, Lotte Kopecky in the omnium, the duo Hesters-De Clerc in the madison, and the Belgian Tornados in the 4×400 meters relay. But Belgian sports are full of talent, so who knows, the Red Panthers, Belgian Cats, Emma Plasschaert, Noor Vidts, or Alexander Doom might also win a medal.
