The Belgian Cup, also known as the Croky Cup, has entered a new round. This week, 32 teams will compete for a place in the Round of 16. Check out all the matches in this article.
Tuesday, October 29
On Tuesday, Dender and Zulte Waregem will kick off this round in the Croky Cup. Dender managed to climb to 2nd place in the First Division B last year, securing promotion to the Jupiler Pro League. It got intense toward the end, as Zulte defeated Dender in one of the final matches, putting that second place at risk. Currently, Dender is holding strong at 7th in the JPL, while Zulte remains in 1B, where they stand in 2nd place.
For RWDM, we see the opposite story: they were relegated to 1B last year, so they’ll certainly want to prove they belong in the higher leagues. Westerlo, meanwhile, needs to regain some momentum, as they’ve won only once in their last five matches.
Charleroi returned to the JPL after winning the relegation round, though they are once again close to the relegation zone this season. They’ll be visiting Patro Eisden, where they might find an opportunity to rebuild some confidence, as Patro Eisden enters as the underdog.
Wednesday, October 30
Beerschot will take on Club Liège, hoping to advance in front of their home crowd. But Club Liège has achieved some surprising results and will look to challenge Beerschot.
Eupen and Union are also battling for a place in the next round, with Union entering as the cup favorite. However, Eupen will have the advantage of home support and has previously shown they can defeat top opponents.
Kortrijk will host Lokeren-Temse and, as a JPL team, will want to assert their class. Lokeren-Temse, though, won’t give up easily and will be determined to challenge the home team.
OH Leuven plays against Seraing United on the same day. Seraing has struggled in 1B, and OHL will look to make the most of their home advantage. Still, Seraing will give it everything to advance.
Beveren faces off against Genk, with Genk entering as the favorite. The Lions of Beveren, however, hope to pull off a surprise at home and will give their all to outsmart the JPL team.
KV Mechelen will host La Louvière, seeing this cup match as a chance to demonstrate their ambitions. The club currently stands 4th in the JPL, and a cup victory would only boost their motivation.
KAA Gent takes on RJ Rochefortoise FC and will approach this match with confidence. Although the Buffaloes didn’t win their last match, they remain in the top 5 in the JPL, making it a challenging match for the visitors from the First National Division.
Club Brugge will welcome Belisia Bilzen at home and aims to showcase their strength in the Croky Cup. Despite taking the league title last year, Brugge fell short in the cup semifinals.
Standard Liège goes up against Lyra-Lierse in what could be an interesting matchup. As favorites, Standard wants to avoid a cup upset, especially as their form in the JPL has recently dipped.
Lierse Kempenzonen plays at home against STVV in a duel where both teams aim to fulfill their cup ambitions. While STVV enters as a JPL club, Lierse traditionally remains a solid team.
Thursday, October 31
Cercle Brugge will host Olympic Charleroi and hopes to extend their cup journey with a strong home match. Charleroi, however, won’t give anything away easily, aiming for a surprise cup upset against this JPL team.
Tubize will welcome Anderlecht and has surely noticed the Brussels team’s recent struggles, with the Mauves winning just once in their last five matches.
Antwerp will play the final game of this round against Deinze, enjoying the home advantage. This was evident in their recent 3-0 win over Standard. Deinze, meanwhile, has been performing well in 1B.
