This weekend promises a lot of exciting football. We’ll start with Belgium, then quickly move on to the other major European leagues, where teams are fighting for crucial points. Read this article to find out which matches are must-watch this weekend.
Friday, November 1
In Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League, the top 6 is the goal for every club. Dender, off to a fantastic start with wins over Gent, Kortrijk, and Charleroi, sits just one point behind Anderlecht. With a win against Westerlo, Dender could secure a prime spot and even move up two places if Gent and Anderlecht lose their matches. Westerlo, Dender’s opponent this week, has one point less, but a victory could also advance them. Both teams will be relieved to win since the three teams below them are tied with Westerlo in points.

In Germany, teams are also eyeing a spot in the top 6. Borussia Dortmund is close to reaching this zone and could climb into the top 3 if things go well. They’ll need to overcome RB Leipzig, who have performed solidly against Bayern Munich. Last year’s winner, Leverkusen, currently sits in third place, so a win for Leipzig could also put them at the top of the standings.
In the Netherlands, Ajax is looking to close the gap with PSV. The Amsterdam team trails the leader by 11 points (with Utrecht between them), but PSV has played two more games. Still, a loss would be a big blow for PSV, as Ajax would quickly close in on them. With ten consecutive wins, PSV holds the best winning streak in the league.
Meanwhile, in Italy, another team is vying for the top 6. AC Milan plays Monza, needing just 2 points to break into the top zone, as teams ranked 4 through 7 each have 14 points, and AC Milan also has 14. They’ll face Monza, who is trying to avoid slipping into the relegation zone, having only 8 points after 9 matches.
Sunday, November 3
Also in Italy, Atalanta will aim to stay in the top 6. They currently sit fifth with 16 points, the same as Fiorentina, Lazio, and Udinese. A win against Serie A leader Napoli could help them secure their position near the top. Napoli, though, leads the table with an almost flawless 22 points out of 27. Romelu Lukaku has had a challenging time there, with only three goals since his transfer from Rome to Naples.
Spain sees a similar story to AC Milan and Monza. Barcelona is eager to retain its lead, feeling the close competition of their eternal rivals, Real Madrid. The Catalans have only lost once and won all other games. This week, they face RCD Espanyol, a team that just climbed back up from the Segunda Division. Espanyol currently stands at 17th place out of 20.
Our last game takes us to England, where two giants clash. Chelsea heads to Manchester United to secure their spot in the Premier League top 5. Manchester United, on the other hand, is looking for a turnaround after an underwhelming season. After nine matches, they sit 14th and recently dismissed coach Erik Ten Hag. Led by Ruud van Nistelrooy, they now urgently need better results. However, whether they can achieve this against Chelsea, with the effective duo of Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer, remains to be seen.
