These two teams last faced off on February 4, 2024. At the Lotto Park, Anders Dreyer scored just before halftime from the penalty spot, following a first half where the Mauves clearly had the better chances. Anderlecht
Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht was founded on May 27, 1908, and is affiliated with the Belgian Football Association under registration number 35. The club’s colors are purple and white, and they play their home matches at the Lotto Park. Since 1935, RSCA has competed in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. With 34 national championships to their name, they hold the record for the most titles of any Belgian club. On the European stage, Anderlecht has also had success, winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup twice, the UEFA Super Cup twice, and the UEFA Cup once.
Two months ago, Anderlecht dismissed their coach, Brian Riemer. The Danish football manager quickly moved on to become the head coach of his national team, while Anderlecht continued with David Hubert. This football club was founded in 1900 and plays its home games at the Planet Group Arena, formerly known as the Ghelamco Arena. The club’s colors are blue and white, and they have been playing continuously in Belgium’s top division since 1989. Over the years, they’ve won the Belgian championship once and the Belgian Cup four times. They also claimed the Belgian Super Cup the same year they won their title.
In early June this year, Wouter Vrancken was appointed as KAA Gent’s coach, replacing Hein Vanhaezebrouck, who managed the team from 2014 to 2017 and again from 2020 to 2024. Vrancken began his playing career at the now-defunct Limburg club Oud Groot Gelmen before moving through teams like STVV, Gent, Genk, Mechelen, and Kortrijk. After retiring as a player, he started his coaching career at RDK Gravelo and eventually landed at Gent after managing several other teams.
Last season, Tarik Tissoudali and Hugo Cuypers were Gent’s key scorers, with 21 and 17 goals respectively. Tissoudali moved to the Greek league over the summer, signing with PAOK Saloniki, while Cuypers transferred to the American league in February, where he now plays for Chicago Fire. This season, Omri Gandelman and Max Dean have stepped up, each scoring nine goals in 18 and 21 matches, respectively.
