Given United’s dreadful season, that may not seem too difficult, but they are still capable of surprising performances—just think of their solid Europa League quarterfinal against Olympique Lyon. Chelsea does have the upper hand here, playing at home in the Premier League. Therefore, we definitely can’t consider United the favourite. If Chelsea wins, they will move level on points with Newcastle United in third place. United could climb to 13th with three additional points.

Union – Antwerp
Title fever is rising at Union. This weekend, they can take an important step toward winning their first national title since 1935, as they face Antwerp. With six points from this match and the next against KAA Gent, Union could start the 2025-2026 season as defending champions. But that won’t be an easy task, as both opponents will be tough to beat. Antwerp showed their strength with a 0-3 win over Gent last time, though they had lost 1-3 to Anderlecht just before that. Union will be hoping that Antwerp doesn’t show their best side this time.
Sunday, May 18
Anderlecht – Club Brugge
In a repeat of the cup final, Anderlecht and Club Brugge face each other again on Sunday. The “Boeren” already have the cup in their hands and are now aiming for the league title. But with Union one point ahead, Brugge must avoid dropping points. It will be even more challenging for their players, as no Brugge supporters are allowed in Lotto Park. If the match turns out as our Magic Expert expects, a strong Brugge side will prevail over a sometimes-unpredictable Anderlecht.
Inter – Lazio
In Italy’s Serie A, the standings are also close to being finalized. Just like in Belgium, the gap between first and second place is only one point, so any slip-up could be fatal. Inter has been warned, as they’re currently at a disadvantage. They can turn that around on Sunday with a win against Lazio. The Rome-based club is still in the race for European football and can’t afford any mistakes either. It promises to be an exciting game at the iconic San Siro. If Inter wins, they’ll leapfrog Romelu Lukaku’s Napoli.
Gent – Genk
There’s not much to say about this match. Both teams have nothing left to win or lose; even if they rise or fall by one place, it won’t change much. Still, we can expect Gent and Genk to offer their fans some entertaining football, hopefully making for an exciting match. Our Magic Expert predicts a goal-filled game, with Genk narrowly taking the win.
Patro Eisden – Cercle Brugge
Now on to the play-downs. This weekend, Patro Eisden will try to take another step towards promotion to the top flight. They’ll do so against Cercle Brugge, who need to defend their spot. Patro beat Lokeren-Temse in the final of the Promotion Play-offs, while Cercle finished second in the Relegation Play-offs. The club from Bruges relegated Beerschot and Kortrijk but had to yield to a strong STVV.
