The Highlight of the 2025 Premier League Darts Season Is Approaching, as the Final Takes Place This Week. On Thursday, May 29, the top four players on the leaderboard will face off in the O2 Arena in London. Read all about it in this article.
Participants
Luke Littler is the defending champion in this Premier League and also the reigning world champion. He finished at the top of the table after the group stage this year. Three weeks before the final, he had already secured his place in the top four. Littler was the most successful player during the regular season with six nightly victories. He collected a total of 45 points and won 27 matches. At just 18 years old, he is chasing an unprecedented second consecutive Premier League title.
The other Luke, Luke Humphries, is the world number one but finished second in the standings with 34 points. He secured three nightly wins and qualified a week after Littler. Humphries is still looking for his first Premier League triumph. He did reach the final last year but lost to Luke Littler.
Third in the rankings was Nathan Aspinall. He won two night events and accumulated 26 points. Aspinall only secured his playoff spot on the final night of the regular season. He had a strong finish to the season, with two wins and three semi-final appearances in the last six weeks. He is a former Premier League finalist but lost the 2020 final to Glen Durrant.
Gerwyn Price finished fourth on the leaderboard with 24 points. He secured three nightly victories and clinched his semi-final spot alongside Humphries in Leeds. Price is the 2021 world champion and is known as a dangerous opponent. He’s especially famous for “spoiling the party” by defeating the favorites.
Format
The playoff night differs from the format of the regular season nights, where each match was a best of 11 legs. On finals night, the matches are longer. The evening begins with two semi-finals:
- Luke Littler vs. Gerwyn Price:
This semi-final promises to be intriguing. Although Price has a generally favorable head-to-head record against Littler, with six wins from eight previous meetings, Littler will be motivated by having won the two most recent Premier League encounters. Both players contributed to the five 9-darters in the competition this season—Price even threw two of them. There’s no doubt Price will try to impose his game, but that will be a tough task against the defending champion. - Luke Humphries vs. Nathan Aspinall:
This semi-final also looks to be a tight contest, as there’s little separating the two players in their head-to-head record. In their four previous Premier League meetings, each has claimed a couple of wins. Humphries enters the playoffs in good form, despite a recent loss to Jonny Clayton in Rosmalen. He seems likely to outperform Aspinall, although the latter did finish the season strongly.
These semi-finals will be played as best of 19 legs, meaning the first player to win 10 legs advances to the final. As the top two finishers in the standings, Littler and Humphries will start the first leg in their respective semi-finals.
The Final
The final takes place shortly after the semi-finals and will be played as best of 21 legs. The first player to win 11 legs wins the match. A rematch of last year’s final, in which Luke Littler defeated Luke Humphries 11–7, is a possibility. That would be a blockbuster match-up. Littler is currently considered the favorite to defend his Premier League title and lift the trophy for a second year in a row. However, Gerwyn Price could very well surprise and win the title against either Humphries or Aspinall. Still, Humphries appears to be the more likely finalist.
Prize Money
The total prize money for the 2025 Premier League Darts is £1 million. The four players who reached the playoffs are guaranteed at least £85,000. The prize money breakdown for the finalists is as follows:
- Winner of the final: £275,000
- Runner-up: £125,000
- Losing semi-finalists: £85,000
In addition to the final ranking prize money, there was also a £10,000 bonus for each weekly winner during the regular season. Luke Littler has already earned £60,000 from six nightly victories. Humphries and Price each earned £30,000 with their wins. Aspinall has already taken home £20,000.
