This weekend we can once again look forward to plenty of great football, with several matches well worth watching. Not only in Belgium, but all across Europe, top clubs are starting new campaigns in pursuit of trophies. The end of the season is still a long way off, but it’s already important for everyone to collect points and secure a favorable position. Read in this article about the most interesting matches of the weekend, so you have the right information to bet on them.

Just like Union, Club Brugge opened their Champions League campaign with a bang: a 4–1 win at their own Jan Breydel Stadium. A convincing and promising start. But in the Jupiler Pro League things have gone less smoothly lately; after a draw against Gent and a loss to newly promoted La Louvière, they also drew against Westerlo this week. High time for change, which could come this Saturday against Standard. The Liège side were on the edge of the relegation zone before their last match, but climbed to eighth place with a win over that same Westerlo. If Standard can come out strong, this could be a very entertaining game.
This weekend it’s time for El Derbi Madrileño. This time Real Madrid visit their city rivals Atlético Madrid at the Estadio Metropolitano. As expected, Los Blancos sit firmly atop La Liga with a perfect 18 points from 18. They also impressed in the Champions League, even if the scoreline didn’t fully reflect it. For Atlético—who can rest more without European football—a win is crucial to stay in the title race. At the moment they’re ninth with nine points, but as the home team they do have a slight mental edge.
Juventus can continue their (almost) perfect run this weekend and take sole lead of Italy’s Serie A. The Old Lady also staged a fantastic comeback in the Champions League, coming from two goals down in the 90th minute. On Saturday they face Atalanta, who suffered a painful 4–0 defeat to PSG in European competition. Domestically, the Nerazzurri sit just outside the top five, and a win could move them up several spots. Atalanta will be hoping for a repeat of last May, when they handed Juventus their biggest home defeat in 60 years.

STVV can make a golden move by beating Genk this weekend. The Canaries currently occupy fourth place in the Jupiler Pro League. Genk are in a slump with inconsistent results, so this might be the perfect moment for STVV. On the other hand, Genk won’t give in easily, as they know they need to collect points too. In Belgium the table is still very tight, and with three points the Limburg side could jump straight to seventh place. It promises to be an intriguing match at Stayen.
To keep up with leaders Liverpool, Arsenal will have to win away at Newcastle this weekend. The Gunners started this campaign strongly, but Liverpool proved too strong in their head-to-head clash, leaving Arsenal five points behind. Newcastle have struggled, managing just one win so far. Arsenal will also have gained confidence from their Champions League victory over Athletic Bilbao, so they’ll want to start this match on the front foot.
Napoli are on a flawless run in Serie A with three straight wins. But this weekend they face a truly formidable opponent: AC Milan. The Rossoneri are just inside the top three and can draw level with a win. It seems the perfect time for Milan to pick up as many points as possible, but Napoli will want to bounce back after their Champions League loss and strengthen their grip on first place. This is undoubtedly one of the weekend’s most spectacular fixtures and well worth watching.
