Finals in the Belgian Cup

The Belgian Cup, also known as the Croky Cup, is the most beautiful football tournament according to many fans. Especially since amateur teams can come out surprisingly strong against big opponents. Starting today, several Belgian teams will meet to play the 1/16th finals in that Belgian Cup. Current champion Antwerp obviously wants to keep its title, but it will have to win this round and also survive the next rounds against names like Genk, Gent and Club Brugge. And what about the star players in 1B?

Tuesday, 31 October

The teams that will kick off this round are Eupen and Ostend. They will start their match at 6.30pm at the Kehrwegstadion in Eupen. Ostend are currently 15th in the First Division B, taking on 10th in the Jupiler Pro League. So they have quite a challenge ahead of them.

Mechelen must still try to score some points in the Jupiler Pro League, as they are currently in 14th place with a meagre 11 points. But today they have to prove themselves against Knokke, who are 9th in the First Amateur League.

Cercle Brugge and Zulte Waregem will play their match at 8.30pm. Cercle is currently in 4th place in the Jupiler Pro League, and Zulte Waregem in 1st place in the First Class B.

STVV plays against Francs Borains, a team in 14th place in First Division B. Sint-Truiden is 9th in the Pro League.

The leader in the First National, RAAL La Louvière, is in a strong position with 26 out of 30. They must try to prove today against Anderlecht that they belong in the Pro League. That Anderlecht is doing well in the Pro League, standing second with 24 points.

At the same time as Anderlecht, Charleroi plays against Thes Sport. Charleroi is not immediately doing very well in the JPL either, it is barely in 11th place. Thes Sport is a team from the first amateur league, and is ranked 7th there.

Wednesday, 1 November

Wednesday they start early; the first game will be played at 3pm. Union are doing very well in the Jupiler Pro League and are currently first. So they should be able to win fairly easily against Meux.

A little later, we then get an interesting match between Lierse K. and Antwerp. Antwerp should still be able to prove themselves, as the Sinjoren are currently just 7th. Although they are title holders, so maybe that mental advantage will win out. There will be a more detailed article about this match, which you can read via the Magic Betting News website: www.news.magicbetting.be .

At 16h, it is then up to Genk. They play against URSL Visé, which is in last place in the first amateur league. So it should not be a big challenge for Genk, who are 5th in the JPL.

Surely a big surprise in this Croky Cup is Eendracht Elene-Grotenberge. They are ranked 11th in third national. Their opponent is OH Leuven, which also needs to pick up points quickly in the JPL. Currently, they have 12 points and are in place 13.

Kortrijk are in penultimate place in the JPL, also with only one point more than Westerlo. They play tomorrow against Dender, which is in 6th place in 1B. It could already win against Beerschot though and played a draw against Ostend.

Third place in the JPL, Gent, plays its match against a club from the ‘upper middle’ of 1B: Patro Eisden. The team from Maasmechelen is currently in 7th place in their series.

A second team from Charleroi, Olympique Charleroi, plays against RWDM. That team from Molenbeek is currently 12th in the JPL, but can certainly finish higher in this Croky Cup. Olympique Charleroi is also in 12th place, but in the first amateur league.

SK Beveren – Westerlo also promises to be an entertaining duel. Westerlo, which is currently the red lantern in the JPL, must try to prove themselves against a team from First Division B.

Standard is in mid-table in the JPL, in 8th place, but has to play in the Croky Cup against a club from the second amateur division: Racing Harelbeke.

Closing do Beerschot and Club Brugge. Beerschot is in 3rd place in the First Division B, Club Brugge at 6 in the Pro League.
