The thrilling games of the initial Euro 2024 lineup are wrapping up, while the second lineup matches are set to kick off tomorrow! As with the last lineup, we’ll provide you with insights on the upcoming matches to help you make well-informed predictions with Magic6!

Germany – Hungary

Germany and Hungary will face off in the second match of the Euro 2024 group stage on June 19th at the Stuttgart Arena in Stuttgart. The game is scheduled to kick off at 5pm.

Germany had a fantastic start to the European Championship with their opening game. They completely dominated Scotland, winning by a huge margin of 5-1. It was a great opportunity for their young talents like Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala to shine, as they both scored goals.

This victory also marked the largest win by a host nation in the opening match of a European Championship tournament. In fact, it was Germany’s biggest tournament win since their famous 7-1 victory against Brazil in the 2014 World Cup semi-final.

Hungary, on the other hand, entered this tournament as one of the underdogs, but now they are desperately fighting to stay alive in Euro 2024. It’s quite surprising considering that Hungary had an impressive unbeaten streak of 14 games from November 2022 to March 2024, finishing at the top of their Euro 2024 qualifying group.

However, things have taken a turn for the worse as they have lost two out of their last three matches. They suffered a 2-1 defeat against Ireland in a friendly earlier this month and started their Euro 2024 campaign with a disappointing 3-1 loss to Switzerland.

Now, Hungary must secure a victory to realistically keep their hopes alive of reaching the knockout stage for the second time in three European Championships (reaching the last-16 in 2016).

Germany Team insights

Germany had a crucial decision to make for their starting lineup at Euro 2024: should it be Kai Havertz or Niclas Fullkrug up front? In the end, Havertz got the chance against Scotland and although Fullkrug scored a beautiful goal after coming off the bench, it seems likely that Havertz will start again.

Since this is Germany’s second game of the tournament, it’s unlikely that we’ll see any changes to the starting eleven. Julian Nagelsmann is focused on securing qualification, so Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz will flank Ilkay Gundogan just behind Havertz. Unfortunately for Leroy Sane, he’ll have to settle for a spot on the bench.

The double-pivot of Robert Andrich and Toni Kroos worked well, and Antonio Rudiger and Jonathan Tah are the trusted center-back pairing.

Hungary Team insights

Hungary is faced with a decision now – should they stick with their current lineup or make some changes? It’s a tough call. On one hand, they could trust their starting XI to come together and produce a positive outcome against Germany. On the other hand, Marco Rossi might consider making a few alterations in the hopes of bringing some good luck.

The defensive trio of Attila Szalai, Adam Lang, and Willi Orban, along with goalkeeper Peter Gulasci, will definitely remain unchanged. As for the right-wing-back position, Attila Fiola seems to be Rossi’s preferred choice over Loic Nego, based on recent performances.

When it comes to the attacking front, Hungary doesn’t have many strong alternatives that could surpass Dominik Szoboszlai, Roland Sallai, and Barnabas Varga. The latter was the one who scored Hungary’s goal against Switzerland, with an assist from Szoboszlai. Although Martin Adam was a popular choice among fans to come off the bench, it seems unlikely that he will start for Hungary in this tournament.

Denmark – England

Denmark and England will face off on June 20th at 5pm at Deutsche Bank Park, Frankfurt. It’s going to be an exciting showdown!

England may not have been entirely convincing, but they kicked off Euro 2024 with a win. Jude Bellingham netted the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Serbia, marking the fourth time under Gareth Southgate that England has won their opening match of a major tournament. Their perfect record began with a 1-0 triumph against Tunisia in the 2018 World Cup, followed by a 1-0 win over Croatia in Euro 2020, and a 6-2 victory against Iran in the 2022 World Cup opener.

Denmark, however, started their Euro 2020 campaign with a draw against Slovenia, as Christian Eriksen’s goal was matched in the first half. They made it to the semi-finals but were defeated by England, and now they are determined to shine on the global stage once again. Let’s not forget, they famously won the European Championship in 1992 despite not qualifying at first.

As for England, they have the chance to secure a spot in the knockout stage in the upcoming match. A win will guarantee their advancement, regardless of the outcome of the other match. On the other hand, Denmark must avoid a loss to control their own fate.

Denmark Team Insights

Kasper Hjulmand has been switching between a back four and a back three for England, and he decided to go with the latter this summer. Andreas Christensen, Jannik Vestergaard, and Joachim Andersen are the center-backs in that defense, with Kasper Schmeichel in goal.

In midfield, Morten Hjulman partnered with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, while Christian Eriksen played in front of them. When it comes to making changes, there aren’t many standout options for Hjulmand to consider. Jonas Wind and Rasmus Hojlund formed the striking duo against Slovenia, with Kasper Dolberg and Yussuf Poulsen available on the bench.

England Team Insights

Gareth Southgate opted for a 4-3-3 formation against Serbia, which also functioned as a 4-2-3-1 with Jude Bellingham playing in a more advanced role. Fans criticized Phil Foden’s performance, raising doubts about his starting position. However, during Euro 2020, Southgate only made one change to the starting line-up in the first two games, as Kyle Walker returned from injury.

Although Kieran Trippier seemed to have suffered an injury during the match against Serbia, he managed to complete the game, so he should be fine to continue. Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to remain in midfield alongside Bellingham and Rice.

Spain – Italy

Spain and Italy will face off on June 20th at Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

Spain, along with Germany, holds the record for being the most successful team in the history of the Euro Championship, having won the tournament three times. Two of those victories were achieved during Spain’s dominant period between 2008 and 2012. However, since their last triumph in 2012, Spain has faced disappointment, being eliminated in the round-of-16 and reaching the semi-finals in 2020 only to lose.

In the Euro 2020 tournament, Spain suffered a defeat on penalties against Italy. This upcoming match presents an opportunity for Spain to seek revenge while also potentially securing a spot in the knockout stage. Currently, Spain sits at the top of their group after a somewhat surprising victory. Although many expected Spain to defeat Croatia, no one anticipated such a comfortable 3-0 win.

All of Spain’s success in the match came in the first half, and they managed to hold on to their lead in the second half, ensuring their victory by keeping things tight.

Italy, the reigning champions, kicked off their title defense with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Albania. Despite being considered underdogs, Albania put up a strong fight and even scored the quickest goal in European Championship history. Only one team has managed to defend their European Championship title before, and Spain will be looking to prevent Italy from achieving the same feat.

Spain Team Insights

Unai Simon was the top choice for Luis de la Fuenta in goal, beating out David Raya and Alex Remiro, and that won’t change on Thursday. On the attacking front, Alvaro Morata was chosen over Joselu as the starting striker and he scored the first goal with a calm finish in a one-on-one situation. Morata did pick up a minor injury, as did Pedri, but it’s not a major concern.

Lamine Yamal made history against Croatia, becoming the youngest-ever player in European Championship history and the youngest player to provide an assist, setting up Dani Carvajal. There’s no reason for him not to start, but Spain also have good options in Ferran Torres, Dani Olmo, and Mikel Oyarzabal.

Italy Team Insights

Luciano Spalletti experimented with a back three earlier this year, but he switched back to a mix of 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 formations against Albania. Davide Frattesi was the one advancing up the field, while Jorginho and Nicolo Barella stayed behind. Federico Chiesa wreaked havoc on the right wing and is expected to continue, while Lorenzo Pellegrini covered the other side.

Netherlands – France

The clash between Netherlands and France is set for June 21 at Red Bull Arena, Leipzig.

The Netherlands is determined to end their long wait for an international title at Euro 2024 this summer. In the previous pan-European tournament, the Dutch team was left disheartened after being knocked out soon after progressing from the group stage. Frank de Boer was replaced as the head coach, and Louis van Gaal took charge, leading the Netherlands to a quarter-final exit in the recent World Cup finals.

Now, with Ronald Koeman following in Van Gaal’s footsteps, there is a sense of familiarity. Despite having a number of well-known players who can potentially form a formidable team, the Dutch team’s performance remains unpredictable.

France, on the other hand, has its sights set on clinching their third European Championship title at Euro 2024 this summer. Following a disappointing performance in Euro 2020, where they were knocked out by Switzerland in the round of 16, and a World Cup final defeat against Argentina in Qatar in 2022, Didier Deschamps and his French squad are determined to bounce back and emerge victorious in Germany.

They are widely regarded as one of the top contenders to win Euro 2024, trailing just behind England in the betting market. With exceptional talents like Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann, and a promising crop of young players, France is expected to make a deep run in the tournament. Many believe they have a strong chance of equaling Italy and Germany’s record as the most successful nations in the history of the competition, with three European Championship trophies.

Both teams are well aware that the best third-placed teams will progress to the knockout stages. Even in the event of a loss, there remains optimism as there is still an opportunity to advance.

Netherlands Team Insights

Koeman faces a tough decision this summer as he must choose his starting lineup. While he has experimented with both a back-four and a back-three, he seems to lean towards the latter. This choice is logical considering the defensive prowess of the Dutch team. Frenkie de Jong will anchor the midfield, while Memphis Depay is set to spearhead the Oranje’s attack.

France Team Insights

Didier Deschamps opted for a 4-2-3-1 setup for France, where Tchouaméni is crucial in connecting the defense and offense. Up top, Olivier Giroud takes the lead with Antoine Griezmann just behind him and Ousmane Dembélé on the right flank. Benjamin Pavard and Jules Koundé are vying for the right-back position, while Theo Hernandez provides attacking support from the left side.

Turkey – Portugal

This match features a showdown between a top contender before the tournament and a squad that underperformed in the previous edition, despite being considered as potential surprise contenders.

Portugal, the reigning champions of 2016, are confident about their prospects in Germany this summer. With a squad filled with attacking prowess and defensive stability, they are ready to make their mark once again. The draw for Euro 2024 has been kind to Roberto Martinez’s team, giving them a relatively easier group. After their first match against the Czech Republic, Portugal will aim to establish their authority.

Meanwhile, Turkey is hoping for a victory in their opening game against underdogs Georgia to alleviate some pressure. However, any positive outcome would be gladly accepted, considering the intense competition for the second spot in Group F.

Turkey Team Insights

Turkey is set to rely on their strong midfield lineup during Euro 2024, featuring Hakan Calhanoglou from Inter and Orkun Kokcu from Benfica supporting the talented Arda Guler from Real Madrid. This squad seems more energetic compared to the one that underperformed in the last European Championships, so they might just pull off some unexpected wins in Germany.

Portugal Team Insights

Portugal is really stepping up their game for Euro 2024 with an impressive level of quality and pedigree. Just imagine the fear-inducing front three of Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Leao, and Bernardo Silva, supported by the talented Bruno Fernandes and Vitinha.

And let’s not forget about the solid defensive platform provided by Ruben Dias and Goncalo Inacio. This team seems to have a perfect balance. The big question now is whether Martinez can get the tactics right.

Belgium – Romania

Belgium will face off against Romania on June 22 at the Rheinenergiestadion in Cologne.

Belgium is determined to clinch its inaugural international title at Euro 2024. With Domenico Tedesco at the helm, the former Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig head coach, Belgium showcased a dominant qualifying campaign, emerging undefeated in Group F, narrowly edging out Austria by a single point.

Despite some alterations in the squad, Belgium remains a formidable candidate for the championship. Nevertheless, their lackluster display in the World Cup serves as a reminder that triumph is not assured, motivating several players from that squad to seek redemption in Germany.

Romania is getting ready for the upcoming European Championships after not making it to Euro 2020. They have their sights set on surpassing the group stage for the second time ever. Back in 2000, Romania had their best performance in the Euros, finishing second in their group ahead of England and Germany. They secured their spot in the upcoming tournament by topping their qualifying group. Now, they’re determined to maintain their momentum and bring some unexpected surprises to the competition.

Belgium Team Insights

Ever since taking over as Belgium’s national team manager, replacing the long-serving Roberto Martinez, Domenico Tedesco has shown great flexibility in his lineup choices for the Red Devils. However, one thing remains constant: he always sticks with a back four formation in all of their previous matches.

Assuming everyone is fit, Kevin De Bruyne is expected to play as the number 10 in Belgium’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, while Romelu Lukaku leads the line upfront. Johan Bakayoko and Leandro Trossard are likely to occupy the flanks, although Jeremy Doku will provide tough competition. As for the defense, Koen Casteels currently holds the number one spot in goal, with Wout Faes and Jan Vertonghen forming Belgium’s first-choice central defensive partnership.

Romania Team Insights

Edward Iordănescu, a seasoned manager in Eastern European football, might not be a household name, but his expertise speaks for itself. His main focus is on maintaining consistency among his players and sticking to the successful tactics that have brought Romania this far. To achieve this, he relies on a formation resembling 4-2-3-1, which emphasizes a solid defensive base. Remarkably, Romania only allowed five goals during the qualifying matches, showcasing their defensive prowess. Additionally, Iordănescu’s team possesses a formidable counter-attack, adding another dimension to their gameplay.
